Week 3 Assignment # 3 UDL

Part 1
What is Universal Design for Learning (UDL)?

Universal design for learning (UDL) is a set of principles for designing and customizing curriculum that provides all individuals with equal opportunities to learn, regardless of ability, disability, age, gender, or cultural and linguistic background. At its core, UDL provides a blueprint for designing strategies, materials, assessments, and tools to reach and teach students with diverse needs. The teachers are tasked with designing learning experiences and environments that meet the needs of individual learners, through flexible means, methods, and materials. UDL reduces the barriers to instruction and helps meet the challenges of diversity by recommending the use of flexible instructional materials, techniques, and strategies that empower educators to meet students'. UDL has allowed us as teachers seeking ways to differentiate instruction to shift our thinking away from categorizing our students toward planning for their inevitable and variable needs.
